4 Preschool Games You Can Do At Home With Your Little One

4 Preschool Games You Can Do At Home With Your Little One

With cooler weather coming and winter vacation quickly approaching, I wanted to write an article about fun games that parents, grandparents, and caregivers can play with young children on cold, rainy, or snowy days when they are stuck indoors.

The games in this article will help stimulate minds and bodies. Many parents would love to limit their child’s screen time but aren’t sure of what games or activities to do with their children.

The great thing about these games is that even though they were originally geared towards younger children, many preschool games can be modified so that older children and adults can enjoy them.

1- Barney Alphabet Zoo

The first game I want to mention is Barney Alphabet Zoo. This game is straightforward to play, and there are no winners or losers. To play this game, everyone takes a turn choosing an animal, and then everyone moves around and makes noises like that animal.

For example, if someone picked a frog, everyone would hop around and say “ribbit” like a frog.

2 – Bingo

Another great game is alphabet bingo. This game does have a winner. This is played just like regular bingo, except all of the squares have letters in them.

You could play this game with all uppercase letters, all lowercase letters, or with both uppercase and lowercase letters.

To play the game, the parent or caregiver will call out letters, and if a child has that letter, they will color in the square. The first child to make a line across the bingo board wins the game.

3 – Freeze Dance

Another great game for preschoolers is freeze dance. This is a classic game that helps young kids get out some energy. To play, put on some of your favorite music and dance around.

Then, pause the music. When the music is paused, everyone has to freeze. If someone doesn’t freeze, they’re out! The last person standing wins.

4 – Balloon

The last great game that we will cover today doesn’t have a name that I know of, but it has always been one of my favorite games to play. You can use a balloon inside or a large beach ball outside.

To play that game, you hot the ball or balloon into the air and work together not to let it touch the floor. This is a great, fun way to get out some energy, and it’s fun to play because rather than there being a winner or a loser, everyone is working together.

I had a hard time choosing which games to mention for this article because there are so many great games and activities that can be played throughout the winter months to help keep your little ones occupied.

In the next few articles, I’ll mention other games and some art activities that would be perfect for rainy or snowy days. I hope you enjoyed just a few of the games that we went over today.

As I mentioned before, many games and activities created with young children in mind can be easily modified so that the whole family can enjoy them. I would love to hear suggestions on other great games that could be played both indoors and outdoors.
