Signs You Were Raised By A Narcissist

Narcissists are a very different breed of people. If you have a narcissistic parent, then your parent probably seems like one of the most fun, generous, and fun-loving people. Your mother or father might seem quite charming to many and magnetic.

When you tell people what your parent is like, they’re most likely going to blame you for the “normal” reactions to your probable bad behavior.

Narcissistic people can put you in a bad light even if they’re in the wrong. This is especially true when it’s your very own parent.

They’ll be viewed as protective and as though they only want the best for you; however, when you’re alone, all the pretense falls away, and you’re back to being ridiculed and criticized.

Some of the signs that indicate a narcissist raised you are:

You’re unsure of what you want or who you indeed are

This is most likely due to all the years you’ve spent pleasing your parent at your own expense. You were never allowed to be yourself, only who your parent wanted you to be. Due to the grandiosity of your parent and having to fall at their feet to avoid being ridiculed, you lost your sense of self.

Your self worth is determined by your achievements

Because you’ve been conditioned in such a way, you believe that the more you achieve, the more worthy you are.

When you have a narcissistic parent, you’re loved conditionally instead of unconditionally. You’re viewed as valuable and important when you achieve great things that your parent can brag about to others.

Unfortunately, this continues throughout your life.

Had a narcissist step father, and a empath mother. She always made us run in fear, no boundaries. 5 girls had to look after the 2 youngest one’s when my mom was in hospital. Drinking father, was so sick and tired of running away in the middle of the night. Permormed in fear for father. And went on in my adult years, untill now, also chose a man that was drinking, and then took my sister as his girlfriend in our place. After 3 years with her, now his back. No I don’t want him back, I hate it. I say NO.

    1. It is so sad how we are so conditioned to attract these people in our lives. There should be a test to see who is allowed to have kids or not. These people just destroy lives for no reason.
